2008 FESTIVAL SEASON INTERNSHIPS

WHY REPERTORY OPERA?
Only opera combines all theatrical elements into one unrivaled package. Opera companies that run in repertory escalate the intensity by presenting several productions in an alternating sequence.  In August, operagoers can experience all four productions and a concert in less than 48 hours. There are small teams each working on one show and larger teams juggling all four shows on a daily basis.    Keeping these balls in the air is what Glimmerglass is all about.  If you are seeking a dynamic experience in the arts, Glimmerglass Opera is the place for you.

WHY GLIMMERGLASS OPERA?
Nestled among the rolling hills of upstate New York on the shores of Otsego Lake, Glimmerglass Opera draws its artists from major U.S. and international opera companies and regional theaters, and welcomes staff and interns from all over the country every summer. Glimmerglass Opera is an internationally-acclaimed company that creates four new productions every summer, mixing exciting new versions of traditional operas with daring interpretations of rarely-produced works. In 2008, Glimmerglass’s season features works linked to Shakespeare, including a fully-staged musical.

WHY BECOME A GLIMMERGLASS OPERA INTERN?
A good internship immerses you in a professional environment and allows you to test the skills and knowledge you have gained in school.  Glimmerglass Opera’s well-known internship program provides the opportunity for young professionals and students to experience first hand the fast-paced, inspired and magical world of repertory opera.  Whether you are interested in production, artistic or administration, Glimmerglass Opera’s internships help you refine the skills you need to develop a career in the arts.  As an intern with Glimmerglass, you experience a unique combination of practical work and educational programs, each designed to further your professional growth.  Interns work directly with noted professionals under the guidance of supervisors and staff from many of the best theaters, opera companies and schools in the nation.
