Volunteer
Glimmerglass Opera relies on its many volunteers to serve as ambassadors of the company by ushering at performances during the summer, and/or promoting the summer festival year-round. Glimmerglass Opera ushers take tickets, assist in seating audience members, and most importantly, welcome our audience members with smiling faces. You may also consider promoting Glimmerglass Opera year-round by joining the Glimmerglass Opera Street Team.
If you are interested in volunteering as an usher for the upcoming festival, please send us an email. We always welcome new faces, so if you know of anyone who may be interested in being a volunteer usher, please have them be in touch as well. Further information about ushering this summer will be posted soon.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact House Manager Kerryanne Kennedy.
The following are the basic policies for ushering at Glimmerglass Opera:
- Each usher is expected to arrive at least one hour and 15 minutes before curtain time for sign in, a brush-up orientation and preparation.
- Each usher is expected to remain on duty until the end of the performance.
- Dress for ushers consists of a white shirt or blouse and black (or navy blue) trousers or skirt. Formal designs are more appropriate than sporty ones. Remember, the house is not climate controlled, so be prepared for inclement weather. Sweaters and vests should also be black, white, or navy blue.
If you are interested in volunteering in other ways, please look into joining the Glimmerglass Opera Guild, which provides volunteer support to the Opera year-round.
