ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

Glimmerglass Opera seeks a full-time, year-round Accounting Assistant.  This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for the efficient operation of the accounts receivable function.  Duties include preparation of daily bank deposits, the review and processing of accounts receivable and preparation of monthly reconciliations.  The Accounting Assistant will also assist with preparation of financial reports, as well as general finance office administration, accounts payable and payroll when needed.   

Requirements: Prior experience in accounting, preferably with an arts or non-profit organization; ability to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced work environment; strong computer skills including spreadsheet experience; must be detail-oriented.

Seasonal Production Staff

The deadline for Seasonal Production Staff applications has passed.

At this time, we are still accepting applications for the following positions.

DRAPERS, FIRST HANDS, and STITCHERS - GLIMMERGLASS OPERA invites applications for 2008 season of four new productions designed by Anka Lupes, Gabriel Berry, Kaye Voyce and James Schuette. Work as part of construction teams creating a wide range of costumes.  Applicants with professional experience preferred, but not required.  Employment from mid-late May through mid-late July; competitive salaries; housing provided; own car recommended.  Letter, resume, and references by February 1.

ASSISTANT MANAGER - GLIMMERGLASS OPERA 2008 repertory season of four new productions designed by Anka Lupes, Gabriel Berry, Kaye Voyce and James Schuette.  Must have experience in artistically demanding environment, excellent knowledge of techniques and resources; ability to solve multiple tasks efficiently, work in a team-oriented atmosphere; execute budgets and time management.  Professional experience preferred.  Commitment to safe shop practices essential.  Employment from April 28 through August 2; competitive salary; housing provided.  Portfolio, letter, resume and references by February 1.

COSTUME CRAFTS ARTISANS - GLIMMERGLASS OPERA invites applications for 2008 season of four new productions designed by Anka Lupes, Gabriel Berry, Kaye Voyce, and James Schuette. Work as part of six-person crafts department on four period productions. Applicants with professional experience preferred, but not required.  Employment from mid-late May through July 27; competitive salary; housing provided; own car recommended.  Letter, resume, and references by February 1.

COSTUME SHOPPER- GLIMMERGLASS OPERA invites applications for 2008 season of four new productions.  Responsible for local/regional materials, accessories, and supplies shopping.  Requires knowledge of costuming materials, techniques, and historical styles; financial management experience; ability to work efficiently and pleasantly in fast-paced, multi-designer environment; and driver’s license.  Extensive driving (company-provided vehicle) in Central New York.  Employment from early May to August 2; competitive salary; housing provided; own car recommended (for personal use).  Letter, resume, and references by February 1.

Seasonal Administrative and Artistic Staff

HEAD CHEF - YOUNG AMERICAN ARTISTS PROGRAM (YAAP)

Position reports to:                  Director of Artistic Operations

Position is supported by:         Sous Chef and/or hourly help, as budgeted and agreed upon in advance.  Indirectly supported by Residence Manager and YAAP Interns.

This position is responsible for the provision of all meals for the Program and the cleanliness of all kitchen and dining areas at Lime Kiln, the Program’s principle residence.

Duties include: Assess food and equipment needs at residences. Plan menus in advance of the summer.  Submit a weekly menu plan, ensuring nutritionally balanced menus, one week in advance, to Residence Manager, taking account of special diets as required. Order and keep records of necessary supplies, track budgets, and brief Director of Artistic Operations on budget status throughout season. Develop system for managing numbers at meals. Schedule kitchen help as required, within budget. Prepare and provide dinner daily.  Prepare and provide breakfast three to four days a week.  On a daily basis, ensure that lunch foods are provided for the Artists’ own preparation.  Provide efficient system for individuals to have access to food at all times. Clean all dinnerware, cooking utensils and serving surfaces after every meal.  Store food hygienically.  Ensure cleanliness of the YAAP kitchen and clear away dishes and garbage, if required. Prepare and cater dinner to rehearsal venue as dictated by rehearsal schedule.

Wear provided clothes at times to be mutually agreed upon.  Ensure that all kitchen help adheres to dress code. Prepare and cater for guests at Lime Kiln, as discussed with Director of Artistic Operations. Complete kitchen close down procedures at end of season. Use best efforts to ensure a positive morale and atmosphere within the program. Must be available mid-May to late August. SOUS CHEF - YOUNG AMERICAN ARTISTS PROGRAM (YAAP)

Position reports to:                  Director of Artistic Operations and Head Chef
